My baby's getting glasses!

I'm having to adjust to the whole idea.

Turns out, she's EXTREMELY far sighted. I don't understand how, since it seems like she tries to get as close as possible to things she's trying to see, but, well, I'll trust the eye doctor's expertise over my own.

We picked her out some purple frames with butterflies on the side. They're very, very cute.

No on-site lab for her optometrist, so we'll have to wait a few days. She isn't happy about waiting, and she really isn't happy with the whole dialating-her-eyes thing. I told her that was the worst part for most grownups, too.

Because her case is so severe, the doctor is only giving her half the prescription now. She's going to check her again after a month to see how her eyes have adjusted.

I guess we'll have to take new fall pictures now, once the new frames come in. I told Anna Marie that since it was so early in the week, maybe she'd have her new specs by the weekend.

She really believes that no one will recognize her with the glasses on. I guess she'll be disappointed when her red hair and personality give it away.

And for those of you wondering what my daughter looks like as a leopard:

She wept bitterly when I had to wash off her spots last night before bed, even though I told her that leaving them on would dirty up her pillowcase.

"I did not want you to do that!" she cried.

Poor little leopard.

tell Anna Marie that you are the Meanest Mommy EVAH!!! :o)

Love the glasses, though...they are totally cute & so look like her!

That Meanest Mommy thing - I think she already knows. She told my mom the other night that Jason and I didn't want her spending the night over there very much.

To her, us not letting her go over there every.single.night is akin to not wanting her to go over there very much.

And on the glasses - she looks even more like her daddy with those wire rims on!

Okay.

One more time.

Far sighted means that her vision is better for far off things than it is for things that are close to her. That's why she's straining her eyes to look at small things on the TV and computer screens - they're blurry to her and she's doing the best she can to make her eyes focus close up.

It's going to fine, by the way. Look how great she's been doing WITH her vision problems. She'll be unstoppable with corrective lenses.

See, if we'd known she was far sighted, I could've had her sitting in Jason's big chair to watch TV instead of her hippo chair much closer.

And thank you, Dr. Amanda, for your explination. I've been wearing glasses since I was 15 and I still get mixed up occasionally on what the terminology is. Alls I know is, without my specs (or contacts, as the case may be) I pretty much can't see very far past my nose.

Cute! Both my girls got glasses at about age 7. The older one can't see past her nose either. It used to kill me to take her for her eye exam & she couldn't read past the 2nd line!

Even though I know it isn't my fault, part of me thinks, well, maybe it is. Like, I didn't have bright enough colors in her nursery, or didn't feed her enough carrots, or something like that.

Certainly, it can't have anything to do with the fact that nearly every other member of her family (except one of my brothers, and he's probably never had an eye exam so who knows) wears glasses!

At least she is to the age where we can expect a reasonable semblance of responsibility as to her putting them away properly each night. I think.

One of my boys started wearing glasses in the 1st grade...he's now in 7th.
She looks adorable in her new frames...and in her leapoard spots...too cute!
Thanks for your comment on my blog. It made me smile! :o) Can I add you to my list of blogs I read?

Crud...I really can spell leopard. LOL!

Sure, Jolene - and I'll add you to mine!

Although I scrapbook, I don't get to do it nearly as much as you apparently do - one day, my husband will actually get me the scrap table that he promised me two years ago for our office!

I love those glasses - I want some (purple is my favourite colour!) I'm short sighted so I can't see stuff that's far away. (Came over here from OWOA btw)
